Hamari Adhuri Kahani starts off with Vasudha Prasad (Vidya Balan) United Nations agency is nearly on the verge of collapsing on the streets of Bastar district, whereas her husband Hari (Rajkumar Rao) is gushing his heart bent on a doctor action on the very fact that Vasudha did visit him sporting a red dress, one thing that the doctor rubbishes as his hallucination. Amidst that point, he gets to understand that Vasudha has set for heavenly abode. that is once he visits his son's home to try and do the last rites of his dead partner... solely to be shooed away by his son. once most are asleep, he escapes with Vasudha's ashes to be immersed in Bastar and not in stream Ganga. however before feat the house with the ashes, Hari leaves behind a diary for his son that tells the story of Vasudha.
